Hemp beverages are becoming an increasingly visible part of the beverage industry. From hemp-derived cannabinoid drinks to functional beverages made with hemp ingredients, brands are finding new ways to bring hemp into the can.
But once a hemp beverage is ready to leave the warehouse, there is another question to answer:
How do you ship it safely?
Canned beverages are heavy, liquids can leak, and cans can be dented during transportation. For brands shipping directly to consumers, retailers, influencers, or promotional partners, the right beverage shipping box can make fulfillment much easier.
That is where Whale Pod Shipper comes in.
Our beverage shipping boxes are designed specifically around cans and bottles, giving hemp beverage brands a purpose-built solution for getting their products from the warehouse to their destination.

Why Hemp Beverages Need Purpose-Built Shipping Packaging
A regular cardboard box isn't necessarily designed around the unique challenges of shipping beverages.
Cans are:
- Heavy compared with many other e-commerce products
- Vulnerable to dents and impact
- Prone to shifting around inside oversized boxes
- Capable of causing significant damage if one can leaks
- Expensive to ship when excessive box space and void fill are used
For a growing hemp beverage brand, these challenges can become especially important as direct-to-consumer orders increase.
Instead of filling a generic box with cans and loose packing material, beverage brands can use packaging designed specifically around the number, size, and shape of the cans being shipped.
That's exactly what Whale Pods are built to do.
Our Pods use integrated corrugated protection and dividers to help keep beverage cans separated and secure during transportation. Many of our Pods can be assembled, packed, sealed, and shipped without additional loose packing materials.
How to Ship Hemp Beverages with Whale Pods
The first step is simple:
1. Determine your can size
Hemp beverages come in a variety of formats, including:
- Standard 12 oz cans
- 16 oz cans
- 8 oz cans
- 250 mL cans
- Slim and sleek cans
Whale Pod Shipper offers packaging designed for many of these formats.
Our Slim Can Pods, for example, are designed for 12 oz, 250 mL/8.4 oz, and 7.5–8 oz slim or sleek-style cans. They feature multiple layers of corrugated protection around the cans.
2. Determine how many cans you're shipping
Once you know the can size, determine your desired pack size.
For example, a brand might ship:
4 cans → 8 cans → 12 cans → 16 cans → 24 cans
Whale Pod offers different configurations to accommodate different quantities.
For standard 12 oz cans, our Flex Pods use built-in separators to keep groups of cans separated while providing multiple layers of corrugated protection.
For larger shipments, we also offer 24-pack configurations and other beverage shipping solutions.
3. Assemble the Pod
Whale Pods are designed to make beverage fulfillment simple.
Rather than building a box and then filling the empty space with large amounts of loose packing material, the beverage goes directly into a purpose-built shipping system.
Assemble → Load → Seal → Ship.
That can help beverage brands streamline their packing process as order volume grows.
4. Add your shipping label
Once the cans are securely packed, the package can be sealed and prepared for your carrier.
The specific carrier, service, labeling, age-verification requirements, and destination restrictions depend on the product and applicable laws.
What About Hemp Beverage Shipping Regulations?
This is where hemp beverages differ from ordinary soda, sparkling water, or other non-infused beverages.
The packaging is one part of the shipping equation. The legality of the product and the shipment is another.
Hemp-derived products can be subject to federal, state, local, and carrier-specific requirements.
For example, USPS currently states that qualifying hemp and hemp-based products with THC concentrations not exceeding 0.3% may be mailed domestically when the mailer complies with applicable federal, state, and local laws and maintains required compliance records, including laboratory results and other documentation.
UPS has its own requirements for hemp and hemp-derived products. UPS states that hemp-derived products are accepted only when permitted by applicable laws and regulations, and U.S. shipments containing hemp or hemp derivatives must use Adult Signature Required service. UPS also requires shippers to maintain appropriate licenses and approvals.
Keep your compliance documentation organized
For brands shipping hemp beverages, documentation can be just as important as packaging.
Depending on the product and jurisdiction, brands may need things such as:
- Certificate of Analysis (COA)
- THC testing results
- Hemp licenses or registrations
- Product documentation
- Carrier-specific approvals
USPS, for example, requires qualifying hemp mailers to retain records demonstrating compliance for at least three years.
Always verify the requirements for both the origin and destination before shipping.
Federal Hemp Rules Are Also Changing
Hemp beverage companies should pay attention to changes in federal hemp law.
The federal definition of hemp is scheduled to change on November 12, 2026, under P.L. 119-37. The new definition changes the THC standard from the previous delta-9 THC framework to a total THC standard and establishes additional restrictions involving certain hemp-derived cannabinoid products.
That means brands should evaluate their products and shipping programs as regulations develop rather than assuming that today's requirements will remain unchanged.
There is also an important distinction between hemp-derived ingredients and hemp-derived cannabinoids added to beverages. FDA currently states that THC or CBD added to conventional food cannot be introduced into interstate commerce under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
For that reason, hemp beverage brands should work with qualified regulatory counsel to determine whether their specific formulation, labeling, sales model, and shipping destinations comply with applicable requirements.
Whale Pod Shipper provides the packaging—we don't determine whether a particular beverage is legal to sell or ship.
Packaging Your Hemp Beverage for a Better Unboxing Experience
Protection isn't the only reason to think about your shipping box.
For many emerging beverage brands, shipping packages are also a marketing opportunity.
A customer may encounter your brand through the shipping box before they ever open the cans.
That's why Whale Pod Shipper offers custom printing options.
Your shipping box can feature:
- Your logo
- Brand colors
- Promotional messaging
- Custom artwork
- Unboxing instructions
Our custom Pods can be printed with graphics throughout the packaging, allowing the shipping experience to become an extension of the beverage brand.
